Project:

The site-specific installation, entitled No Man’s Land, which Yona Friedman and Jean-Baptiste Decavèle designed for ARIA, can be considered as a symbol of the Foundation’s ideas and goals. An open, interactive and dynamic architecture, designed to be used by different groups of people and in different contexts: a real shared space. The installation was built with the active participation of the students of the Academies of Fine Arts of L’Aquila and of Rome, of the Faculty of Architecture of Pescara and of the local art schools, thus becoming a privileged place for the renewal of the educational and didactic processes of culture.

The structure will later host and inspire projects by other artists and activities that will revolve around the theme of the evolution of the concept of territorial culture. Following Friedman’s philosophy, future artistic interactions and interventions will transform the installation adapting it to the ideas, needs and reflections of those who will decide to participate in the project. Finally, No Man’s Land will be the visible result of the action of artists and entrepreneurs who work side by side for the social and cultural progress of the area. Due to its open and experimental nature and its research dynamics, the project will bring new and unexpected results, as often happens when art interacts with the world.

No man’s Land is proposed as a pattern of ethical and social change replicable everywhere around the world, meant to delete the idea of property and to turn private goods into common goods along a sustainable journey in which the place conquers back its spaces. The negative meaning of land with no rules finds here a positive connotation: the no man’s land is the gift art bestows on humanity.
